DAVIDSON & CHARLOTTE, NC – Classical Public Radio 89.9 WDAV announced today the addition of a People’s Choice Award to the 2016 Young Chamber Musicians Competition (YCMC), powered by OrthoCarolina.

On May 1 at 3pm in Davidson College’s Duke Family Performance Hall, four of the nation’s top ensembles will compete for their share of $10,000 in WDAV’s third annual Young Chamber Musicians Competition. The People’s Choice Award, sponsored by Davidson Day School, will add an additional $2,000, bringing the award total to $12,000.

The audience – rather than the competition judges – will select the winner of this new award. Those present in the concert hall and listening to WDAV’s live broadcast of the program will use a text-to- vote system to select their favorite ensemble.
“We’re excited to add such a unique new dimension to this competition, which has been growing in scope every year,” says Will Keible, director of marketing and corporate support. “The mere presence of an audience already enhances the competition experience for these young musicians, so it’s wonderful that the community can now play a more active role.”

Details of the competition, including how to purchase tickets, can be found at ycmc.wdav.org.
