DAVIDSON & CHARLOTTE, NC – Classical Public Radio 89.9 WDAV today announced a new partnership between its Young Chamber Musicians Competition (YCMC) and the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute & Festival. New in 2018, the Brevard Center Summer Institute & Festival to offer $3,000 scholarships to each musician in the winning ensemble from the Junior Division.

Now in its fifth year, the Young Chamber Musicians Competition, powered by OrthoCarolina, brings four of the nation’s top youth chamber ensembles to Davidson College each year to compete for their share of $12,000 in prize money. A studio recording session, plus a performance on the following season’s Davidson College Concert Series are also awarded to the competition’s senior division winner. WDAV’s Marketing Manager, Amanda Preston, notes “we’ve loved the chance to offer additional opportunities for the competing ensembles. As a Classical Public Radio Station, we’re able to offer some unique experiences that distinguish YCMC from other competitions. These opportunities are intended to provide a boost to further the careers of these talented young musicians.”

Brevard has a long-standing tradition of bringing together over 400 of the best young artists in the country for its Summer Institute. This year, the Brevard Music Institute is offering partial scholarships as an additional prize for the junior division champions. WDAV’s Director of Marketing Will Keible comments, “YCMC attracts some of the most talented young musicians in the nation, exactly the type of students that would be interested in and prepared to attend the prestigious Summer Institute at Brevard. We’re thrilled to offer this new opportunity and help to make this transformative summer experience all the more possible for some deserving musicians.” Brevard Music Center’s Director of Artistic Planning, Jason Posnock, will also serve as a member on this year’s esteemed panel of jurors.
